A downloadable game

Return to Freakonia is the sequel to Escape from Freakonia. It is an exploration / shooter game for the ZX Spectrum 48K or better / compatible.

Compared to the previous chapter this game is more simple in some aspects but on the other hand adds new game mechanics and has a larger map (192 rooms)

This is my second game using KraspLib.  All the source code excluding KraspLib is written in Boriel ZX Basic.

The goal of the game is to destroy the core and return home. In order to do that you will have to defeat the three bosses. You will find some upgrades that will help you accomplish your mission. Also, there are some workshops where you can restore your ship's health.

The default keys are Q,, A, O, P and Space but can be redefined (also, a Kempston joystick can be used).

Tips:

- You can defeat the bosses in any order you want but some areas are much more difficult or not even accesible if you are not properly equipped.

- The first thing you should do is get the inertial suppressor, which fortunately is available very early. Without it you will find your ship hard to control.

- You don't have to kill everything. Sometimes it's just more convenient to just dodge the attacks.

- Enter the rooms carefully. Some enemies or damaging obstacles are near the borders.

- You don't have to pick up all of the upgrades to finish the game but even the optional ones are quite useful.

A walkthrough of the game is provided in RZX format. You will need a compatible emulator (like Fuse) to run it.

Finally, as you can see, judging by the loading screen I am a terrible graphic artist but I don't care. I just enjoy coding for old machines. Anyway, I hope you like the game. Thanks!

Hey, I hope you don't mind, but I featured your awesome game in my top 50 Spectrum homebrew games of 2025

Thanks!

My pleasure :)

It's fun, sir!

And that gravity effect is really cool.

Greettings!

Thanks!

About the "gravity effect", it was actually meant as a new game mechanic: you can't pass through some narrow passages with pikes without the "gravity stabilizer". I appreciate you like it!

Great Game

Thanks!

Very nice game!

Thanks!
